So you want to throw a Call of Duty tournament? Or, maybe Halo or Battlefield 4. Most first person shooters can operate the same way.
First, give a bunch of consoles. They all have to be the same kind, so if you have an XBox 360 and your friend has a PS4, but his brother has a PS3 and this other guy that wants to play only has an XBox One, well, you have a problem.
Not sure I’ve mentioned how much I like PLAYlive Nation. But, they solve that problem. 20 or more game consoles, set up and ready to play on the internet. I’m not sure if you can bring your own games but they have a lot of copies of most games. But there are bound to be other places like it around so look around. Plus, you all get to be in the same room and so you can make fun of your friends even after they rage-quit.
But, what is a fair way to find a winner? Free-for-all. I know, team matches are popular on the pro circuit, but creating the team is only the beginning. You need to find a team to play against. Or multiple teams. Really, for a fun tournament party, just play FFA.
A really short tournament would be to all join a party, battle it out and the winner of the game is the winner of the tournament. Fun, but, kinda short. The trick to drawing it out is how you make the rules regarding elimination. For any round, you should eliminate at most one person. With a small group, you can eliminate somebody only after they’ve been at the bottom TWICE.
